How long does it take a man to change?

Have you ever wondered: “I work for Christ, but I don’t see any baptisms, any conversions, or any real change in people?” At times, you may feel discouraged, troubled, and even fall into despair.

Have you ever lost hope in working for God because you don’t see any fruit? Because nothing seems to be happening?

I believe the story of Nicodemus gives us a powerful example. It shows us that every work has meaning, and every effort has its own purpose, even when we cannot see the results immediately.

Nicodemus, as described especially in the Gospel of John, was a man who came to Jesus at night. This detail is mentioned multiple times, emphasizing something important about him. He came in secret, perhaps unsure, perhaps even hesitant or afraid to openly accept Christ.

At first glance, this may seem strange—a man who was not ready to publicly identify himself with Jesus. Yet, despite that, something was happening within him.

Through these encounters, Nicodemus began to understand the value of who Jesus was. He started to recognize His importance. His journey was not immediate, but it was real.

And one important truth stands out: Christ never gave up on Nicodemus.

When we reflect on this, it teaches us something deeply encouraging. We, too, should not give up—on people, on our work, or on our faith.

Do you know when Nicodemus fully appears again? It is after the death of Christ. We see him at the cross, and this time, he is no longer hidden. He steps forward.

At that point, he is willing to leave everything behind. He lets go of his position, his status, and his resources. He identifies himself with Christ openly.

This is a powerful transformation.

When we look at his life, it becomes clear that his change did not happen overnight. It took time. It was a process.

It may have taken around three years—or even more—for Nicodemus to fully accept Christ. We do not know exactly when his first encounter happened, but we do know that it was not immediate. His journey was gradual.

And that is the point.

Sometimes, we expect instant results in our work for God. We expect quick change, visible fruit, and immediate outcomes. But the story of Nicodemus reminds us that God often works slowly, quietly, and deeply in a person’s heart.

So, even when you do not see results, it does not mean nothing is happening.

Every effort you make has value. Every word you speak, every act of service, has its own purpose and impact—even if it is unseen.

That is why we should not give up.

If you are feeling discouraged, if you feel like your work is not producing results, hold on. Do not lose hope.

Because just like Nicodemus, there may be people whose lives are changing slowly—quietly—over time.

And one day, the fruit will appear.
