Have you ever been corrected by God? Have you ever been disciplined by Him? Or have you ever been led into situations where you did not understand what was happening to you—times that left you troubled, perplexed, and even questioning the existence of God?
Have you experienced hardships and heartbreaks? Have you gone through things that made you wonder whether they were the result of your own sinfulness, your wrongdoings, or something else?
As humans, we do experience these things. Often, it is because of what we do—because of our sinfulness. The Bible says, “the wages of sin is death.” Our actions can lead us into difficult situations. They can cause suffering and regret. These are the consequences of sin.
However, there is also another reason why people go through tough times—times when they feel helpless, alone, and as though everything is against them.
That reason is this: the Lord loves them.
Why do we say that the Lord loves them? It is simple. Proverbs 3:12 says, “because the Lord disciplines those He loves, as a father delights in his son.” In the New King James Version, it says, “for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.”
This is a powerful truth. It explains why, at times, we go through difficult seasons.
Yes, sometimes we face consequences because of our actions—we reap what we sow. But there are also moments when our hardships are not just consequences; they are corrections. They happen because God loves us.
It is because He loves you and me that He reproves us, corrects us, and disciplines us. Sometimes, we must go through hard situations in order to learn important lessons.
So whenever you are going through hard times—broken times, confusing times—never lose hope. God loves you. It is His love that leads Him to correct you.
This is not because He is an angry God. He does not act out of anger.
Let me give you an illustration. When a son makes a mistake, how do parents respond? Some may discipline, others may rebuke. But why do they do that? Because they love their child. They do not want the child to repeat the same mistake. They want to teach a lesson and guide them in the right way.
Now, if an earthly parent, who is imperfect and carries sinfulness, can correct their child out of love, how much more can God correct the people whom He loves?
Isn’t that amazing?
So the next time you go through tough times, when you feel like you are being corrected, do not lose hope. Remember that God loves you. It is because of that love that He corrects you.
Just as Proverbs 3:12 says, “for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights.”
May God bless you.
